From Akara to Real Progress: Nigerians Deserve More Than Survival
Many Nigerians respect honest work in akara, agbado and kuli-kuli businesses. But the debate over that advice isn’t about shame in humble beginnings. It’s about frustration with being asked to endure hardship while those in power live comfortably. A ₦50,000 grant may help a market trader restock, but it can’t rescue millions battling debt, hunger, soaring rents and school fees. Framing handouts as economic progress only highlights how far too many are still struggling to survive. What Nigerians really want is an economy that works: stable electricity, affordable food, security for farmers, well-paid jobs and fair credit. True progress comes when people sell akara by choice, not because they have no other option.
