Bayelsa Declares Holiday Ahead of President Tinubu’s Visit

Bayelsa Declares Holiday Ahead of President Tinubu’s Visit

The Bayelsa State Government has announced a work-free day on Friday to mark President Bola Tinubu’s one-day visit to the state. Markets will also remain closed as part of the preparations. State Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai said the holiday will allow workers and residents to join the events. “We are ready to receive the father of our nation for the inauguration of four legacy projects,” she stated in Yenagoa. President Tinubu is set to commission a state-owned gas turbine at Opolo-Elebele, a 60 km dual carriageway linking Onopa to the LNG axis, and a 630-metre bridge connecting Angiama and Oporoma. Residents and traders have been urged to comply with the directive and welcome the President.

Why did Bayelsa choose a state-wide holiday just for a one-day presidential visit? What benefits do locals actually expect from this shutdown?

Haha, na true talk. One-day shutdown look like big wahala, but maybe small market vibes and local traders fit press their luck.

Closing markets and schools for presidential visits seems more symbolic than productive, especially if essential services get stalled for no clear local gain.

I'm not convinced a day off will boost morale or economic activity; it might just disrupt people's routines without any lasting impact.

Perhaps local leaders should schedule community events or public forums on that day to ensure citizens see tangible benefits from the state holiday announcement.
