Eid-el-Kabir: Northern Christians Call for Unity Over Self-Interest
The Northern Christian Association has urged political leaders to prioritise national interest over personal gain as the country approaches another election season. It also encouraged Nigerians to use the Eid-el-Kabir festival for sober reflection on insecurity, economic hardship, and rising social tensions. Highlighting the festival’s themes of sacrifice and compassion, the association appealed to both Christians and Muslims to work together for peace and national cohesion. It stressed that Nigeria’s diversity should strengthen the nation rather than fuel division or political manipulation. The statement reminded political actors that leadership is a sacred trust demanding humility, accountability, and justice. It called for issue-based politics that promote stability and unity without creating unnecessary tension or chaos. The NCA also asked citizens to support widows, orphans, and displaced families during the celebrations and prayed for lasting peace, healing, and progress across Nigeria.
