FG Targets 2026 Admission for New Armed Forces College of Medicine
The Federal Government has inaugurated a Technical Working Group to fast-track the establishment of the Armed Forces College of Medicine and Health Sciences. The proposed institution is expected to admit its first military medical cadets in the 2026 academic session. Education Minister Tunji Alausa said the college will train doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other health professionals for military operations. Its programmes will cover battlefield medicine, emergency response, rehabilitation and Tactical Combat Casualty Care. The college will be located at the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna and is modelled after the United States Uniformed Services University. Officials say the Armed Forces face an estimated 93 per cent shortage of medical personnel, making the project important to military healthcare and operational readiness. The committee will develop curricula, secure accreditation, recruit staff and work with JAMB and the National Universities Commission to prepare the institution for its planned take-off.
