FG Begins Allowance Payments for Tertiary Workers as 2026 Agreements Take Effect
The Federal Government says it has begun paying approved allowances to eligible workers in tertiary institutions and concluded new 2026 agreements with academic and non-academic staff unions. Eligible members of ASUP and COEASU will receive the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance, while qualifying non-teaching staff will receive the Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowance. The payments are scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2026, subject to agreed conditions and implementation guidelines. The Ministry of Education has also expanded its implementation and monitoring committee to include academic and non-academic unions. The agreements will be reviewed after three years, with the government aiming to improve staff welfare and reduce disruptions to academic calendars.
