Police Inspector Killed by Lightning While on Duty in Maiduguri

In a tragic incident on May 7, 2026, Inspector Abdulkadir Garba, known as Buratai, was struck and killed by lightning while coordinating vehicle parking opposite the Borno State Police Command headquarters in Maiduguri. According to the Borno State Police spokesperson, both Garba and his senior colleague, ASP Wazani Adamu, sought shelter as strong winds gathered. A sudden lightning strike at about 2:19 pm hit both officers. Adamu survived with minor injuries, but Garba suffered fatal burns. Garba was widely respected for his dedication and passion for duty.
