IGP Report Clears Lagos Businessman, Urges Prosecution of Ogun Monarch in Ajah Land Dispute
The Nigeria Police Force monitoring unit has cleared Dr. Ken Uwaifo and Stanley Oripelaiye of demolishing buildings in the disputed Happy World/Happy Land Estate in Ajah. An investigative report however recommends the prosecution of Oba Kazeem Salami of Ijebu Makun-Omi (“All Rounder”) and others for alleged land grabbing and unlawful sale of plots. Investigators found that Cosmopolitan Properties acquired the land by public auction in 1993 before Uwaifo’s purchase, and no valid title from the petitioners was shown. The report accused the petitioners of forcible entry, criminal conspiracy, false information and acts likely to breach the peace. It advises applying the Lagos State Anti-Land Grabbing Law and referring the file to the Commissioner of Police’s legal department before charges are filed. If the petitioners dispute the demolition, the report suggests they seek redress at the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning or in civil court rather than taking unilateral action.
