How I Sneaked into Ogbe Stadium as a Kid to Watch Bendel Insurance
My uncle was a diehard Bendel Insurance FC fan. He started taking me to Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium when I was around four, and I instantly fell in love with the club. During a match against Bendel United, fans stormed the pitch after a goal and the police fired teargas. I cried not because of the teargas but because my team was losing. From that moment, I was determined to watch every game. As I got older, I could no longer enter for free. I made friends with the ball boys and hid in storage areas until kickoff. I even scaled the stadium fence and once tried to follow Rangers International’s team bus just to see them play under Christian Chukwu. Today, entry is free but fewer fans show up. It’s amazing how life and football seasons change.
