Despite Venue Uncertainty, CAF President Confident 2027 AFCON Will Succeed in East Africa

CAF President Patrice Motsepe insists the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be a landmark event despite ongoing preparations. Speaking in Johannesburg, Motsepe acknowledged infrastructure challenges but praised Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda for their commitment. He highlighted progress on Nairobi’s Talanta Sports City Stadium and renovations at Moi International Sports Centre. Though official venues are yet to be confirmed, qualifiers begin this September ahead of the June–July finals. Motsepe also revealed that CAF has received strong bids for the 2028, 2032 and 2036 tournaments. The 2027 edition will mark East Africa’s first AFCON in nearly 50 years and the last under the current biennial cycle before moving to a four-year schedule.
