EFCC Charges Man for Posing as Presidential Adviser in N25m Crypto Licence Scam
The EFCC has arraigned Igoin Tokoni Peter before Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja. He faces a four-count charge of impersonation and obtaining money under false pretences after allegedly posing as the President’s Special Adviser on ICT Development and Digital Innovation. According to an EFCC statement on its social media handle, the defendant is accused of securing over N25.9 million from one company and N19.8 million from another. He reportedly claimed the funds would be used to obtain a cryptocurrency exchange licence, a claim the agency says was entirely bogus. Peter pleaded not guilty to all counts. The prosecution requested he be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre pending trial. Justice Egwuatu granted bail of N400 million with two Abuja-based sureties. One must be a property owner and the other a Grade Level 15 civil servant. The case is adjourned to July 16, 2026, for trial commencement.
