Living the Eighth Beatitude: Finding Joy in Persecution
I reflect on Jesus’ promise in Matthew 5:10–12 that those persecuted for righteousness are blessed and will inherit the kingdom of heaven. To be persecuted for righteousness means living like Christ—with integrity, obedience, a pure heart, and a hunger for what is right. When you speak truth and walk in mercy, your very life becomes a challenge to wrongdoing. Though insults and abuse may come, they are temporary. If we remain faithful, we receive an everlasting reward in heaven—a glory far beyond our present trials, as noted in Romans 8:18.
