LPG Tanker Brake Failure Kills Tricycle Operator at Agu Awka Junction
A commercial tricycle operator died when a fully loaded LPG tanker lost its brakes and ran him over at Immigration Junction in Agu Awka, along the Awka–Enugu Expressway. The Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra confirmed the tanker, which had no registration number, collided with the tricycle bearing plate UMZ002QJ. Eyewitnesses said traffic was being diverted for road reconstruction when the driver lost control. Rescue teams found the tricycle operator dead at the scene, while the tanker driver escaped unhurt. The victim’s body was taken to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital morgue. Fire service crews stood by to prevent any secondary incident, given the tanker’s flammable load. The FRSC urged all motorists, especially drivers of heavy vehicles, to check their brakes, obey speed limits, and use the toll-free line 122 to report emergencies.
