After Jesus raised Lazarus, many believed in him. But some reported his miracles to the Pharisees, who feared Roman intervention. Caiaphas argued it was better for one man to die than for the whole nation to perish. His words fulfilled prophecy about Jesus dying for God’s scattered children. From that moment, the leaders plotted to arrest Jesus. He withdrew to Ephraim, and as Passover approached, the chief priests ordered anyone who knew his whereabouts to report it.
