My ₦45,000 Teaching Salary Is Delayed Again: Should I Quit, Learn Tech or Start a Side Hustle?
Good morning, Naijaworlders. I need genuine advice about my current job situation. I work as a teacher and earn ₦45,000 monthly, but salaries are frequently delayed. As of 11 August, I have not received my July salary, even though the school closed before the end of July. We have also been told that August salary may not be paid this month. I was offered ₦20,000 as part-payment, with the balance to come later, but I declined because I cannot keep borrowing money and receiving my salary in bits. When the proprietor called me, I hoped we would discuss a solution. Instead, I was advised to find another source of income, such as selling recharge cards. I have tried private lessons, AI music and video creation, forex, lending, and remote work. I also have an AI-focused Facebook page with about 141,000 followers and a YouTube channel that gets views, but data costs, paid AI tools and platform restrictions have made it difficult to post consistently. I enjoy technology and would like to build a career around it, but I only have SSCE and feel stuck. Should I keep this teaching job while searching for another one, learn a tech skill, return to AI content creation, or start a low-capital business? I would appreciate realistic advice, skill recommendations and job leads.
