Is Any Form of Smoking Truly Safe or Beneficial?
There is no form of smoking that benefits the body. Whether it is cigarettes, shisha, cannabis, herbal mixtures or dried leaves, inhaling smoke exposes the lungs to harmful particles and chemicals produced during burning. Shisha is often seen as safer because its smoke passes through water. However, the water only cools the smoke; it does not remove all toxic substances. Charcoal used to heat shisha can also release carbon monoxide, while the smoke may still contain nicotine and fine particles. “Natural” does not always mean safe. Some plants may have useful compounds when eaten or used as medicine, but burning them creates smoke that can irritate the airways and damage the respiratory system. Coughing after smoking is not detoxification; it is often the body reacting to an irritant. Vaping is different from smoking because it does not involve combustion, but it is not harmless either. The healthiest option for the lungs is to avoid inhaling smoke or aerosols altogether.
