APC Primaries Row: Five States Face Exclusion Over Deputy Officers Dispute
Fresh concerns have emerged over allegations that five states may be barred from upcoming APC primaries and the presidential convention. Stakeholders say disputes over the recognition of deputy national officers in the National Working Committee (NWC) have left Akwa Ibom, Kwara, Ekiti, Cross River and Zamfara sidelined. Critics argue the President’s directive to include all deputy officers for broader participation was only partially applied, reviving long-standing grievances. A former party official described the dispute as a structural issue that predates the current leadership. The Senate has denied any rift with the Presidency despite rumours about automatic tickets for returning APC lawmakers. Senate spokesman Yemi Adaramodu dismissed suggestions of a falling out and assured that legislative-executive cooperation remains intact. With governors now in full control of state primaries under the Electoral Act, federal lawmakers face fresh uncertainty over their political futures. As the APC convention and the 2027 elections approach, party unity is under pressure.
