Ambassador Ibrahim Says Tinubu Will Secure Nigeria’s Permanent UN Security Council Seat

Ambassador Ibrahim Says Tinubu Will Secure Nigeria’s Permanent UN Security Council Seat

Nigeria’s UN ambassador, Jimoh Ibrahim, believes President Bola Tinubu will win a permanent seat on the Security Council. He made this remark in an interview on Channels Television. Ibrahim noted that the current council has only five permanent members and no African nation holds that status. He said Tinubu is troubled by Africa’s exclusion and has raised the issue in international meetings. The ambassador acknowledged that council rules date back to before many countries gained independence. Still, he is optimistic that reform talks will yield success soon. Ibrahim also revealed that Tinubu discussed the push with Ghana’s President John Mahama, who previously led efforts to classify the transatlantic slave trade as a crime against humanity.
