Mixed CAF Results for Nigerian Clubs as Shooting Stars and Elkanemi Win
Nigerian clubs recorded mixed results in the first legs of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup preliminary rounds. Rivers United earned a 1-1 away draw against FC San Pedro in Côte d’Ivoire, while Rangers International were held by AS Sobemap in Abeokuta. Rangers will need a stronger display in the return leg to stay in the Champions League. Shooting Stars marked their return to continental football after 27 years with a 1-0 win over CS Sfaxien, courtesy of Emmanuel Lucky’s goal. Elkanemi Warriors also took a commanding 3-0 lead over Guinea-Bissau’s UDIB, with Nnamdi Mejuobi scoring twice and Dayo Wahab adding a penalty. I was at the Shooting Stars match on Saturday and the Rangers game on Sunday. Everything is still to play for in next weekend’s second legs.
