Mbappé Makes History as First Player to Win Two World Cup Golden Boots

Kylian Mbappé has become the first player ever to claim the World Cup Golden Boot twice after finishing as top scorer at the 2026 tournament. The Real Madrid forward struck 10 goals in eight matches to edge out Argentina captain Lionel Messi, adding to the eight goals that won him the award at Qatar 2022. At just 27, Mbappé also became the men’s all-time World Cup leading scorer with 22 goals, one ahead of Messi. He scored twice in the third-place play-off against England—despite France’s 6-4 defeat—and admitted he would rather have been lifting the trophy than chasing individual honours.
