Lagos Taskforce Boss Alleges Blackmail Plot, Vows Not to Bow to Pressure
CSP Adetayo Akerele says recent online attacks against him and his unit stem from his refusal to grant undue favours. Speaking on Lagos Traffic Radio’s Bosenlo programme, he named two individuals who lobbied for the release of impounded okada and other vehicles after traffic violations. He alleges they resorted to threats and coordinated smear campaigns when their requests were denied. Akerele says he holds screenshots of messages that show demands for preferential treatment and subsequent blackmail attempts. He condemned the misuse of social media for intimidation and spreading half-truths. He reminded the public that, under the Lagos State Road Traffic Law (2018), vehicles caught driving against traffic are forfeitable. He reaffirmed his commitment to enforce traffic laws without fear or favour and warned against unverified information.
