Marco Rubio Demands Appeal After Balogun’s Controversial Red Card

US Senator Marco Rubio praised the Americans’ 2-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina in Santa Clara but slammed the referee for sending off Folarin Balogun. Balogun received a red card in the 64th minute after a video review of his challenge on defender Tarik Muharemovic. Rubio insisted there must be an appeals process before Team USA faces Belgium in the round of 16. Balogun leads the squad with three goals in the World Cup but will now miss their next match. Captain Tyler Adams and several commentators felt a yellow card would have been more fitting.

What do you make of Rubio pushing for an appeal after Balogun's red card disrupted the match momentum?

True! That red really shook things up, so asking for review feels spot on.

It's curious how Rubio praised the win yet immediately questioned the referee's decision on Balogun's challenge.

Blaming the referee overlooks how video review exists precisely to correct split-second errors on the pitch.
