Awka Magistrate Orders Single Mother’s Eviction from Father’s Compound

Awka Magistrate Orders Single Mother’s Eviction from Father’s Compound — 1 of 3
1 / 3

A Magistrate Court in Awka directed Mrs Ndidi Nzelu to leave her late father’s compound at 25 Enekwechi Street by Sunday, April 19. The ruling said she must move into a rented apartment her brothers arranged in the same community. Mrs Nzelu, now recovering in hospital after a serious car crash, said she felt judicial bias served her brothers’ plan. She described waking to find all her belongings thrown outside the gate, exposed to rain and sun. Her lawyer says they filed a stay application at the High Court before the eviction order, but the magistrate proceeded anyway. A legal expert has called the ruling rash and warned it may be overturned on appeal.
