Lagos Commuters Stranded as Bus Drivers Strike Over Alleged Extortion
Commuters on the Iyana-Ipaja–Iyana-Iba corridor in Lagos have been left stranded after commercial bus drivers began a strike. The drivers allege persistent extortion by traffic and transport enforcement officials, police officers, road safety personnel and transport union members. They say vehicles are frequently impounded for long periods, cutting off their daily earnings. The drivers said the strike was necessary to draw attention to the rising cost of operating on the route.
