Oluremi Tinubu Calls for More Second-Chance Schools for Out-of-School Girls

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called for increased investment in second-chance education for girls whose schooling was disrupted by early pregnancy, financial hardship or cultural barriers. She made the appeal during the commissioning of the rehabilitated Alternative High School for Girls in Agboju, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos. The school, supported by the Universal Basic Education Commission, helps out-of-school girls return to secondary education while gaining vocational and life skills. Represented by the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima, the First Lady urged Lagos State to establish another alternative school in Lagos Central. A similar facility is already under construction in Ikorodu for Lagos East. Officials said the school has helped former students obtain secondary-school certificates, learn trades and build careers. Outstanding vocational students received empowerment items, while the school also received a deep freezer.
