Iwoye Community Petitions Governor Over Alleged Ancestral Land Grab by APC Chairman

Iwoye Community Petitions Governor Over Alleged Ancestral Land Grab by APC Chairman

Residents of Iwoye Community in Yewa South, Ogun State, have petitioned Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Inspector-General of Police, and the state Attorney-General over alleged land grabbing and encroachment. They accuse APC ward chairman Yemi Edun Ogunleye, known as Orenge, and others of unlawfully taking and selling ancestral land without consent from rightful heirs or traditional authorities. Women, youths, and elders warn that this threatens peace and the community’s heritage. The petition lists offences including threat to life, malicious damage, forcible entry, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. Residents urge security agencies and land authorities to investigate and act before tensions escalate. The dispute has already sparked protests that blocked the Ilaro/Owode-Yewa road for hours. Mr. Edun denies the allegations, stating the land belongs to his family and was ratified by the late Oba Tella Adekambi of Ilaro.

It's surprising that local leaders could face such a public petition without any mediation attempt first. Something feels off here.

Are we sure the residents have all the facts? Allegations alone don't prove the chairman's guilt without a proper investigation.

Community members should document all relevant land titles and survey reports, then share them with legal advisers before submitting formal evidence.
