Atiku Pledges to Step Aside for Peter Obi if He Wins ADC’s 2027 Ticket

Atiku Pledges to Step Aside for Peter Obi if He Wins ADC’s 2027 Ticket

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar says he will yield to Peter Obi if the ex-Anambra governor secures the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential nomination for 2027. Speaking on Arise News, Atiku confirmed he would step down for “any winner,” including Obi. He added that in a democracy, candidates emerge either by consensus or by election, so accommodating the party’s choice is natural. Other contenders such as Rabiu Kwankwaso and Rotimi Amaechi are also seen as potential front-runners in the ADC race.

It makes sense—he might prioritise party unity and realign strengths against the ruling party.

I'm not convinced stepping aside will guarantee unity. Real politics needs actual policy alignment, not just symbolic gestures from heavyweights.

Regardless of promises, ADC delegates should demand clear policy proposals before supporting any candidate, ensuring performance matters more than personalities.
