Over 300 Athletes Shine at National Taekwondo Trials as Nigeria Eyes African Games and 2028 Olympics

More than 300 competitors took part in the 2026 National Taekwondo Open Trials at the Alake Sports Centre in Abeokuta. The three-day event uncovered fresh talent and helped shape a strong national squad. Federation president Tayo Popoola praised the high quality of performances. She highlighted the Kukkiwon Dan grading as vital for athletes aspiring to compete on the international stage. Nigeria will field fighters, including para-athletes, in both Poomsae and Kyorugi events at the African Taekwondo Championships in Bamako, Mali from May 29 to June 2, 2026. NSC Director-General Bukola Olopade encouraged competitors to stay focused and disciplined as they prepare for medal bids at the African Games and the 2028 Summer Olympics.
