Haaland’s Dad Accuses Referees of Costly Errors in Norway’s World Cup Exit

Haaland’s Dad Accuses Referees of Costly Errors in Norway’s World Cup Exit

Alf-Inge Haaland has blamed critical officiating decisions for Norway’s 2-1 extra-time defeat to England in the 2026 World Cup quarter-final. He congratulated Jude Bellingham but insisted refereeing influenced the outcome. Norway’s first-half lead was erased by an England goal that stood despite a stadium cable touch. A second Norway goal was ruled out after VAR judged Erling Haaland fouled an England player. Erling Haaland was effectively contained by England’s defence and left scoreless before being substituted in extra time. He still finishes the tournament with seven goals, one shy of the Golden Boot leaders. England now prepare for a semi-final against Argentina or Switzerland, while Norway return home having reached their best ever World Cup stage.

Do you think refereeing errors truly defined Norway's quarter-final exit, or were there other factors at play?

I agree refereeing mistakes looked costly, and we can't ignore Norway's defensive lapses too.

Blaming the referee overlooks Norway's own moments of lost concentration after leading in the first half.

I hear you, but even strong teams can be undone by a couple of bad calls.

I get the frustration, but crying foul every time may weaken the push for genuine officiating improvements.

Teams should focus on clear communication with referees and adapt strategies to minimize controversial decisions affecting match flow.
