UN Data Places Nigeria at the Bottom of Global Life Expectancy Rankings
New United Nations estimates for 2025 put Nigeria’s average life expectancy at 54.9 years, the lowest among countries listed in the report. Nigerian men are estimated to live for about 54.3 years on average, while women are estimated at 54.9 years. The figures place Nigeria below Chad at 55.2 years and the Central African Republic at 57.7 years. They are also far below the global average of 73.7 years. Public health challenges, including infectious diseases, limited access to quality care, health-worker strikes, poverty, insecurity and pollution, are widely linked to the poor outcomes. The data adds urgency to calls for stronger health infrastructure and broader social reforms.
