Sexual Violence Used as Weapon of War Doubled in 2025 – UN Report
The United Nations warns that conflict-related sexual violence surged worldwide in 2025. Nearly 10,000 cases were verified across 21 war-affected countries. The report highlights extreme brutality, including rape, sexual slavery, forced marriage and trafficking. Women and girls remain the primary victims, though men, boys and LGBTQI+ people were also targeted. Displacement, insecurity and weakened protection systems increase the vulnerability of communities. The UN calls for stronger prevention, improved accountability and survivor-centred support programmes. Recommendations include unhindered humanitarian access, enhanced investigations, sanctions mechanisms and increased funding for medical, psychosocial and legal services.
