Understanding Tennis Court Lines and Service Boxes
A tennis court has several lines that define where play is allowed. The baseline sits at the back of the court, while the service line is closer to the net. The centre mark is the short line at the middle of each baseline. The outer boundaries are the doubles sidelines, used in doubles matches. The inner sidelines are used for singles. The space between them is the doubles alley, which is only playable in doubles. The centre service line divides each side into two service boxes. A serve must land in the correct box on the opponent’s side. A ball is considered in if any part of it touches a boundary line on its first bounce.
