UNAA Elects Dr. Sanusi Muhammed Kani as 14th National President with Inclusive Agenda — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Dr Sanusi Muhammed Kani has been elected the 14th National/Global President of the University of Nigeria Alumni Association (UNAA) at the 30th biennial convention in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. He succeeds Lady Doris Okoroh PhD, who completed her pioneering four-year term as the first female leader of the association. A dedicated alumnus from the Kano branch and the first northerner to hold the office, Dr Kani previously served as Deputy National President. His new national working committee features zonal vice presidents, secretaries, and ex-officio members from branches across Nigeria. In her valedictory address, Dr Okoroh highlighted achievements such as updating the Board of Trustees and registering the constitution with the Corporate Affairs Commission. She thanked members for their support and urged them to back the new leadership. Dr Kani presented a four-point agenda focused on unity, a robust alumni data bank, sustainable crowdfunding mechanisms, and enduring projects. He also announced reconciliation committees at zonal and national levels to strengthen trust and collaboration.

Noting the change in leadership, it's curious that no specific details of the inclusive agenda were shared at the convention.

I'm not convinced that a change in leadership alone will address long-standing alumni engagement issues nationwide.

Alumni chapters could hold monthly town halls online to gather feedback and track progress under Dr. Kani's tenure.
