Stakeholders Urge Affordable AI Tools to Support Nigerian Children With Dyslexia

Stakeholders have called for wider use of artificial intelligence and assistive technology to support Nigerian children with dyslexia. They said tools such as text-to-speech, speech-to-text, digital audiobooks and personalised learning exercises can make reading and writing easier for affected pupils. They stressed that technology should support, not replace, teachers and professional assessments. Teachers need training to recognise possible signs of dyslexia and choose appropriate tools, while parents should seek expert guidance rather than rely only on AI applications. The stakeholders also urged government, schools and technology companies to develop affordable, low-data and offline-friendly learning tools. They said reliable electricity, internet access, devices and trained personnel are essential to ensure children in low-income and rural communities are not excluded.
