IGP Disu Orders Arrest of Drivers Covering or Missing Number Plates

IGP Disu Orders Arrest of Drivers Covering or Missing Number Plates

The Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, has directed all officers to arrest anyone driving without visible number plates or covering them. He explained that this dangerous habit has become a status symbol for criminals. Disu warned that covering licence plates will no longer be tolerated, regardless of a driver’s social standing. He said many offences have been traced to vehicles using hidden plates. The police boss made the announcement while addressing guests at his office. A video of his statement is circulating on social media.

I believe stricter enforcement will make many think twice before hiding plates, reducing that show-off behavior.

It's surprising this practice lasted so long, even cars at checkpoints sometimes slip past officers.

Officers could pair plate-visibility checks with brief public education stops to remind drivers of legal consequences.
