Osinbajo Calls on Nigerians to Protect Green Spaces at Lagos Garden Seminar
Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has urged Nigerians to turn their appreciation of nature into practical environmental action. He spoke at the fifth Open Day for Gardeners seminar in Lagos, themed “Leaving the Earth Better Than We Found It.” Osinbajo linked gardening, tree planting and protecting green spaces to the wider need for sustainability. As chairman of the Nigerian Conservation Foundation’s board, he stressed that individuals and communities have a duty to safeguard land, trees and natural resources. The three-day event brought together gardeners, conservationists, agricultural experts, designers, businesses and families. Discussions covered biodiversity conservation, sustainable agriculture, land restoration, climate resilience and the Great Green Wall initiative. Activities also included a plant swap, botanical displays, a photography competition and nature-inspired fashion presentations. Organisers said the event has grown into a platform connecting gardening with conservation, creativity and community action.
