Edo Police Sensitize Students on Cultism and Bullying Ahead of National Police Day

Edo Police Sensitize Students on Cultism and Bullying Ahead of National Police Day — 1 of 4
1 / 4

In celebration of National Police Day and its theme "Community Partnership: Building Trust," the Edo State Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) held a sensitization session at Igbinedion Education Centre, Benin City. Commissioner of Police and key officers engaged students on the dangers of cultism, bullying, drug abuse and other social vices. They highlighted how these activities disrupt academic life, harm personal reputations and carry serious legal consequences under Nigeria’s criminal laws. Students were encouraged to report incidents of bullying or cult-related threats to school authorities or law enforcement. The outreach also urged them to embrace self-discipline, respect for others and become ambassadors of peace in their communities. POCACOV reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing awareness campaigns and partnership with youth to prevent crime before it starts.

It's odd that only one school is mentioned; cultism issues are widespread, so more venues should be targeted.

While sensitization is positive, I'm not convinced it addresses underlying social pressures fueling cultism.

Schools could follow up with peer support clubs and conflict resolution workshops to reinforce these police lessons.
