Why Abuloma, Ogu and Bolo Aren’t Okrika Town but Part of Wakirike Nation
Before we get upset, let’s agree on one thing: words matter. When I say Abuloma isn’t Okrika, I mean Okrika Town, not the wider Wakirike nation. Abuloma, Ogu, Bolo, Ogoloma, Isaka and Ibaka are all distinct towns. Each has its own history, ancestral land and traditions—even as they share a bond under the Wakirike nation. Abuloma’s story is unique. It preserved the Obulom language and traces a journey through the Central Delta to present-day Abuloma. That shows how one community can integrate while keeping its heritage alive. So next time someone asks, “Is Abuloma Okrika?” ask “Which Okrika?” If you mean the town, the answer is no. If you mean the broader Wakirike nation, Abuloma has always belonged.
