Two Sokoto Women Die in Makkah After Hajj, Two Others Injured
Two female pilgrims from Sokoto State died in Makkah shortly after completing the 2026 Hajj rites. The Deputy Amirul Hajj and Grand Khadi of Sokoto State announced the fatalities in a statement issued on June 9. The deceased have been identified as Ladi Umar of Bodinga LGA and Hadiza Umar of Yabo LGA. Two other women involved in the same incident are receiving treatment in a Saudi hospital—one for a fracture and another for an arm dislocation. The Sokoto State Government extended its condolences to the families and prayed for Allah’s mercy and a place in Aljannatul Firdaus for the departed souls. The first group of Sokoto pilgrims is scheduled to depart Saudi Arabia on June 14, following a first-arrival, first-departure policy. Pilgrims were reminded to keep their luggage within the approved 32-kilogram limit. The agency’s Permanent Secretary also thanked the state governor and all those who supported the pilgrims throughout the Hajj.
