Atiku: 2027 Election Must Be Decided at the Ballot Box, Not in Court
Atiku Abubakar says Nigeria’s 2027 general election should be decided by voters at the ballot box, not through court cases designed to sideline political parties. He spoke after the Court of Appeal overturned a Federal High Court ruling that had threatened the legal standing of the African Democratic Congress and other parties. The appellate court held that the earlier judgment was a nullity, citing a subsisting court order and the respondents’ lack of standing. Atiku said the decision clears the way for the Senator David Mark-led ADC leadership to focus on preparations for 2027. He also warned against using the judiciary or state institutions to eliminate political opponents, arguing that free political competition is essential to democracy.
