Ogun Must Invest in Rural Education Before Neglect Fuels Insecurity

Ogun State’s next government must treat education as a security priority. The quality of its commissioners, advisers and other appointees will shape whether public schools receive the attention they need or whether rural communities remain neglected. Communities in Odeda, Ipokia and Ogun Waterside need functional classrooms, teachers, desks and safe learning environments. When children are excluded from quality education, they become more vulnerable to street life, drug abuse, exploitation and criminal recruitment. The education and housing crises visible across the Lagos-Ogun corridor should not be dismissed as separate problems. Sango-Ota, Ifo, Mowe and Ibafo are closely connected to Lagos. Ogun authorities should invest in rural schools and youth opportunities now, rather than wait for neglect to deepen insecurity.
