JAMB Retains 150 UTME Cut-Off for 2026/2027 University Admissions

JAMB Retains 150 UTME Cut-Off for 2026/2027 University Admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has kept the minimum UTME score at 150 for candidates seeking university admission in the 2026/2027 session. The decision followed a vote by vice-chancellors at JAMB’s annual policy meeting in Abuja. Universities may still set higher marks for competitive courses like Medicine, Law, Pharmacy and Engineering. Stakeholders stressed the need to balance wider access with academic standards. The meeting also approved reforms exempting qualified applicants for NCE and certain non-engineering agriculture programmes from sitting the UTME, as announced by the Education Minister.

Keeping the UTME cut-off at 150 seems too low to manage enrollment and maintain quality across degree programs.

Lowering the threshold to 150 might signal that JAMB is prioritizing numbers over genuine preparedness and competence.

Since vice-chancellors can still demand higher scores, aspirants should aim well above 150 to meet individual university requirements.
