Ebola Patient in Abuja Develops Multiple Organ Failure as NCDC Traces 44 Contacts
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention says the Ebola patient in Abuja has developed multiple organ failure and remains in isolation while receiving medical care. The patient, a woman and diplomat who travelled from Uganda to Abuja on October 3, was admitted to a private hospital after developing symptoms initially similar to malaria. Tests confirmed the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, for which there is no approved vaccine or specific treatment. The NCDC has identified 44 close contacts, including health workers, caregivers, other patients and fellow travellers. Surveillance has been increased to monitor possible exposure and prevent further transmission.
