Nigeria Padel Federation Targets Academies, Investment and Youth Jobs
The Nigeria Padel Federation says it will pursue private investment, training academies, new courts and national competitions to expand the sport beyond Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. Its newly inaugurated president, Babajimi Benson, said the plan includes pathways for junior players, women, girls, coaches, referees and high-performance athletes. The federation also intends to work with international and African partners to improve standards and host major competitions in Nigeria. At the inauguration of four sports federation boards in Abuja, National Sports Commission chairman Shehu Dikko said the commission aims to create at least two million sports-related jobs and raise sports' contribution to Nigeria's GDP to three per cent. He said presidential approval has been secured for a sports infrastructure development bond expected to raise more than ₦1 trillion in its first phase.
