First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to Celebrate Akwete Weaving Heritage in Abia

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will visit Abia State on Tuesday, 21 July 2026 to celebrate the famed Akwete weaving tradition. She will be welcomed by Governor Alex Otti and his wife, Priscilla Otti. The First Lady will tour the Akwete Weaving Cooperative Society in Ukwa East LGA and meet master weavers to observe the centuries-old craft behind the globally recognised textiles. A civic reception will hold at the Akwete Central School Field from 10 a.m. Residents, community leaders, women and youth groups are invited to attend and showcase Abia’s rich cultural heritage.
