I Think I May Have ADHD: How Can I Get Help and Cope Better?
Since childhood, I have struggled with forgetfulness, restlessness, excessive talking, disorganisation and strong emotions. These traits affected my childhood badly after I lost my mother and had to live with relatives. I was often criticised and verbally abused when I forgot errands or made mistakes, and it damaged my self-esteem. As a teenager, I became withdrawn and constantly compared myself with other people. Now in my early 30s, I feel more confident than before, but I still struggle with forgetfulness, restlessness and communication. It has affected my relationships and made me isolate myself. After seeing information about ADHD online, I recognised many of the symptoms in myself. I know an online video cannot diagnose me, but I would like to understand whether I should speak with a qualified mental-health professional and learn practical ways to cope. I have also been having thoughts of not wanting to live. I need support, and I will reach out to someone I trust and seek urgent professional help if I feel at risk of harming myself.
