Is a First Class Degree Still Enough to Get a Job in Nigeria?

I graduated with a First Class degree in Psychology and have completed NYSC. I am proud of the achievement, but I have never relied on it alone. I have built practical experience in research, data analysis, academic support, administration, documentation, project coordination, leadership, communication and community engagement. I have also worked in university administration, supported teaching and research, and taken part in fieldwork. Despite this, I am in Abuja applying for roles with little success. Many applications receive no response, and it can feel as though connections matter more than merit. I am open to opportunities in research, administration, programme support, operations, project coordination, NGOs, consulting, development organisations and education. I would appreciate referrals, recommendations, or practical advice on improving my job-search approach. Is a First Class degree still valuable in Nigeria's job market, and what should graduates do to stand out?
