The Difference Between BCS Qualifications And Certifications

The British Computer Society (BCS) Higher Education Qualifications are a UK Honours Degree equivalent qualification. It is accredited by Ofqual (Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation). They provide a route to postgraduate study at several UK Universities and full professional membership of BCS. There are three levels of examination, which cover a wide range of IT topics. 1. Certificate in IT This is the foundation level of BCS Higher Education Qualifications and is the academic equivalent to year 1 of a UK University honors degree. It is recognized by Ofqual as Level 4. There are three core course modules at this level; Information Systems, Computer and Network Technology, and Software Development. 2. Diploma in IT The diploma in IT is the academic equivalent to Year 2 of a UK university honors degree and is recognized by ofqual as Level 5. At this level, students are required to study a core course module and three optional modules. Candidates may decide to proceed to Professional Graduate Diploma in IT or go for a top-up in any of the universities in the UK, provided they offer a top-up program. or visit GlobalCourse.com 3. Professional Graduate Diploma (PGD) in IT This qualification incorporates a PGD project and it is equivalent to a UK University honors degree and recognized by Ofqual as Level 6. Candidates are to complete four-course modules and a project. Successful completion of the highest level of BCS HEQ gives you a route to postgraduate study at several UK universities. Professional Certifications Professional certifications are internationally recognized and measure competence, ability, and performance in many areas of IT, to raise industry standards, promote career development, and provide a competitive edge for employers. They are designed to be both accessible and relevant and cover major areas of IT including: Service management, Software Testing, Business Analysis, IT security, and Green IT. IT professionals can now learn practical and relevant skills that will make an immediate impact on their careers. The training is in levels: Foundation level Certificate: it provides broad coverage within a specific subject area, a basis for future progression, and insight into the areas for practitioners, specialists, and managers from other subject areas. Practitioner Level Certificate- a practical application within a specific discipline. It focuses on specific skills or subject areas and examines a more detailed understanding and the application of knowledge. Each certificate has value in its own right, but one needs to get three of these certificates, supported by the appropriate foundation certificate with an oral interview to progress to a higher level certificate which is the International Diploma.
