Lessons from a Neighbour’s Turbulent Dating Experience
In my neighbourhood, a woman left her partner after discovering he was an armed robber. She moved back to her father’s home with three children. A kind man supported her and the kids for six years, paying school fees and handling every fatherly duty. When his parents intervened and warned him about the situation, he reluctantly walked away. The woman then eloped with another unemployed man, yet she continues to collect money from both men and even her ex. The result has been constant tension and threats among all parties. I share this story as a cautionary tale to men considering relationships with single mothers who have a complicated past. While many single mothers are wonderful partners, situations like this can lead to emotional and financial strain. In my experience, they’re more common than most realise.
