Gbajabiamila: I Nearly Lost My Job Over Desmond Elliot’s Role in Lagos Assembly Crisis
Femi Gbajabiamila has revealed that he almost lost his position as Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu because of Desmond Elliot’s involvement in the Lagos State Assembly impeachment saga. He explained that during the Mudashiru Obasa crisis, the President summoned him to Abuja after reports linked Elliot to efforts to remove the Speaker. Gbajabiamila defended the lawmaker before discovering he was part of the plot. After the meeting, he warned Elliot to steer clear of the impeachment effort. When allegations persisted, he asked Elliot to publicly distance himself from the crisis, but the lawmaker did not issue a statement. Gbajabiamila also dismissed attempts to stir religious tension and said Nigeria’s political leaders collaborate across faiths to deliver dividends of democracy.
