Wike Orders Arrest of Hotel Owner After Abuja Collapse, Plans Public-Use Site
Minister of the FCT Nyesom Wike has directed the immediate arrest of the owner of a multi-storey hotel that collapsed in Jikwoyi, Abuja on April 4. He confirmed the building lacked approval from the Development Control Department and ignored multiple stop-work notices. Although there were no fatalities, several workers were injured and rushed to hospital. Wike warned that the consequences could have been far worse and assured that those responsible will face prosecution under the law. The FCT Administration will seize the collapsed site and convert it for public use. Officials will consult the local community to decide the best public-purpose project for the reclaimed land.
